Secretaire cabinet

Oil painted and gilt stained wood and tortoiseshell; brass mounts. The inner frame on the door presents an allegorical figure in a wavescroll frame filled with a sunbeam panel, with allegorical figures of Europe and America in a centre oval. Inside, a central colonnaded cupboard door is decorated with a painted landscape in a moulded portal. Nine drawers are arranged around the door, with moulded wavescroll frames filled with sunbeam panels decorated with oval landscape paintings. The superstructure has a central colonnaded drawer painted with a water landscape enclosed in a segmental arch and flanked by two smaller drawers. A flat drawer with a wooden knob pull is in the cornice above the large drawer. The pear wood table below the cabinet is modern, with ebony-stained spiral legs.
